Behind The Scenes Film:

A little clip video of everything that was happening behind the scenes starring Nicola Fasulo and Emily Barnard... editing was done by Emily Barnard also but most scenes where recorded by Nicola Fasulo. It was fun creating this video but I do wish I had more clips of what was happening when we weren't recording and when editing I did try to get rid of the black boxes around the video but wasn't able to find a way without zooming to much into the footage.

Behind Scene Set Up:

Editing Process:

Evaluation

My third project we where tasked with film festival, this included at the end choosing a script and re-creating the scene in our own way...  We also had to do research into visual and audio effects and how they can improve a scene while also doing pre production before being able to do our scene recreation.

During my visual production research we looked at everything that contributes to a scene such as; aesthetic, space and compositions, acting, technical aspects, sound, editing, narrative and representation. When doing research on these I looked at definitions on what exactly they meant so that I can use these for the future video what was to come. We also looked into scene creation techniques such as a cut away, here I learned what a cut away was since I've never heard of one before and also what contributes to creating a cut away scene. From that point I had made a small cut away video example of my sister going through the kitchen doing what she normally does on a daily basis. I found this helpful since it gave me the chance to expand my skills further more on videoing so that I could create a video in the future that may need a cut away scene to properly portray what I want to show. The last bit of work that we had to do for the visual production was choose two scenes from either a movie or series and analyse them with he characteristics I listed above on what contributes into making scene appeal to the demographic. I ended up choosing the final scene to the movie Nerve and also a scene from the popular anime movie Silent voice, I have watched both movies in the past and this made it easier for me to know what to write for both scenes but I did struggle a little putting it into the write words at some points.

Meanwhile for my audio production research we had to start off by discussing the beginning of sound, what sound track production is, the three main components of audio and lastly what diegetic and non diegetic sound is. I started off by giving a brief on what the beginning of sound was and at what age a person develops the sense to hear, I later talk about a sound track is and how it effects sound and what the three main components of sound is (voice, sound FX and music). Lastly we spoke about what diegetic and non diegetic sound is and what the difference is between them, I found this really helpful especially later on when I had to do more analyses what I will talk about in a bit. Next we where tasked to do three little projects involving audio what was the sound scape, dead space and phone conversation audios what was all done on Adobe Audition. I have never used audition before in my life so this was great practice for the future especially the phone conversation since in my chosen script there is a phone call part. The last piece of work that I had to do in the audio production was choose two movie or series scene like I did for the visual production and analyse the sound and whether it was diegetic or non and what other attributes it has that I can recognise. My first scene I chose the Wall-E dancing in space scene and for my second one I chose the scene from the teen romcom movie Easy A called Pocketful of sunshine, these gave a range of audio qualities that I could potentially talk about later.

After finishing my research I went onto doing the pre production ready for my final video, It all started out with planning just how I wanted to do my video so I had first completed my mind map and story board... I had to later update my mindmap though due to changes that I had to make in the planning on what was needed. I also did two of the same story board one hand drawn and the other edited in my digital art application on my PC just to give a bigger range into my pre production work. I then went onto doing the location recce, risk assessment and shot list this allowed me to start easing my way into the paper work but also pushed me to really start thinking about just how I will do my video when it came to it such as for the shot list what angles I plan to use. The risk assessment and location recce also made me consider what locations I planned to record in and what dangers may occur to the actors or recording staff (myself) this is the part where I had came to a final decision on just where my film scene recreation would take place. Afterwards I went on to completing the production proposal, production schedule, permission to film and lastly making sure to put in what script I had chosen out of the two given and making sure to distribute them to all actors and staff who was taking some part in my video. Production proposal and production schedule helped me to make the final ideas official for what I was going to do for my final film recreation such as me writing out in a form what I had planned, who was contributing, who would be taking part, prices and also legal matters. The production schedule later then made me plan out what needed to be completed by a certain expiration date and helped me keep my work all in order. After giving out the scripts I had given the actors a contract to fill out called a permission to film this helped me cover the legal sides on whether I was allowed to film them and I had the permission to post the video with their knowledge.

During this whole project I got at times a bit overwhelmed with the circumstances we all had to face due to covid and at times it did make it hard to work and keep my attention fully on the work in front of me but I'm happy to say that I was able to come out through the tough times with all the support I had received. Afterwards I felt much better but I did put a strain on myself with how much work I had left undone and with little time to complete it putting stress on myself but after many hard working nights and support from my family and college peers I was able to work through this and I started to feel better about the work making my thoughts much more positive. Thankfully my crew was happy to help me with this project and made the experience so much better for me and them as a whole and I couldn't thank them anymore than I already did... Overall I feel that the team as a whole was very positive minded and cheerful throughout the process. I have to also give credit to my goals, although they did stress me out at times they really helped me push through and present better work than I hoped for with certain circumstances that occurred at the time. My goals and passion really made me think more about my future and saw that for what I wanted to achieve I needed to push through the present.

What went well in my opinion is my actual film recreation I couldn't be more proud of how it came out although there is bits I can see I could possibly improve in time when I'm more skilful I think for what level I am that it is a good piece of work. I do believe that personally my research isn't what I would hope for it to be for the level I would put myself on, it did disappoint me but I do have to remind myself that at the time its the best I could do. I can remember having internet problems through out this whole experience and I can say for certainty that it made the work so much harder to do but nothing a bit of patience couldn't cure. despite the bad times though there was some good such as the the film recreation I had so much fun creating the video (as you could see in my behind the scenes video), I also very much enjoyed analysing the visual scenes it made me notice so much more than I did when I watched it for the first time. I also enjoyed doing the adobe audition projects I feel that they came out well and it also made me expand my skills further what I was very happy with. When I was in the middle of editing my film re creation scene I was having terrible luck with adobe that night... premiere pro and also audition kept crashing all night and I think I actually had to re edit the whole thing about three times because every time I finished they either crashed and the saved project was no where to be found or it wouldn't export properly. After re updating the systems and also deleting some corrupt files also restarting my PC I was able to fix this issue and completed the video finally and it truly was a weight lifted off my back.

I feel that the reason things weren't going as well as I had hoped was because of not having that well internet connection at the time of completing my project video. The video was definitely the most challenging task to complete and it wasn't because of the task at hand but generally the internet connection, it mainly caused problems when it came down to exporting or saving the projects especially when it came to editing together the audio from audition to the video on premiere pro. On the other hand I do believe that the video came out really well despite everything that happened also the whole process of recording the audio and footage turned out amazing thanks to the hard work of everyone who helped. When recording the camera did die during the process so it did prolong the period of having to record but all turned out well. When the editing took a while to actually work I did end up getting really frustrated at the work and also my PC... I do think that I could of went about it in better ways like being maybe a bit more patient or realising that my computer was just probably over heating because I hadn't turned it off in four straight days. In conclusion to that I believe if I just took a break and thought about it clearly , turned off my PC things would of been completed quicker. Compared to what I use to know my skills have definitely developed and I feel that it is shown throughout the blog and in my work, if you compare my this project to my last I do feel that this one is more polished and well rounded compared to the last... Yes there is sections that I wish I could have done better in for instance my research was better in my previous project compared to this one.

Furthermore in the future I do think that I can improve on my range of work and maybe adding a bit more information in with all of my project based tasks for example my audition and premiere pro work could use more reflection and also screen captures of what had been done during the creation. I do think that I have achieved my long time goal during these projects to have kept a good timing in the video creations since both of the last projects had run on longer than they should have. Meanwhile this project I was able to contain myself, keeping a good time throughout it making sure it doesn't run on longer than it should. I have learned that despite what is going on during a project that I can manage to get through it and complete the task at hand yes I was a bit late on meeting some deadlines but I know that I can do better and I have learned that things will only go up from here.

Thanks to all of my previous work and skill development, especially with adobe audition, I can use this experience to further on my future videos and projects with higher level of audio such as foley and diegetic/non- diegetic sound. Visual work that I can use more in the future now would be the cut aways , they defiantly extended my horizons on what types of shots I can add into my videos to create a bigger effect on the demographic. Overall I am very happy with this project, I had a great time completing it despite the hard moments, it really showed me how hard I can work for one project. I do want to do better in my research for the next work we are set but I also do believe that I did well for this section of work.
